Late last month, a major international law enforcement operation disrupted Hive ransomware’s operations and caused an unprecedented set-back for this cybercrime group.
Authorities Hack into Hive Ransomware Servers
Although to date there have been no arrests made, it was revealed that authorities had secretly hacked into their servers in July 2022. This enabled them to intercept decryption keys and provide victims with free decryptions – totaling over $100 million worth of ransom payments stopped.
Hive Ransomware: One of the Most Active and Prominent Operations
Hive ransomware had become one of most active and prominent operations since its launch in June 2021, as operators provided extortion services and affiliates launched attacks – taking home 80% of all ransom payments while operators received 20%.

In spite of being relatively silent on such affairs, however, FBI has now issued a statement regarding this significant disruption to Cybercrime industry.
